The 7th Annual Pro Hockey Chiropractic Society (PHCS) Workshop is heading to Bloomington, Minnesota, and this year promises to raise the bar once again.

Presentation In Bloomington:
Building % Reconditioning a Robust Spine for Hockey
In this presentation, Scott Livingston draws on nearly four decades of experience in human performance, including his work reconditioning hundreds of professional hockey players, to examine the unique demands hockey places on the spine.
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the mechanical and neurological challenges faced by hockey athletes, along with practical strategies to help prepare the spine for durability, resilience, and high-level performance.
The session will also explore common sources of spinal pain in hockey and provide an integrated framework for assessment, intervention, and progression back to play. Special emphasis will be placed on clinical decision-making in time-sensitive performance environments, helping practitioners support athletes in returning to competition safely, efficiently, and with greater long-term resilience.
The Scouting Report
Scott Livingston is a Master of Neuro Reconditioning Practitioner and one of the most respected voices in human performance, with nearly four decades of experience spanning athletic therapy, strength and conditioning, and elite sport. His work is driven by a deep commitment to bridging the gap between rehabilitation and high-level performance—helping both athletes and practitioners reach their full potential.
Scott spent 11 seasons in the NHL, serving as an Athletic Therapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders. He later became Director of Performance and Medicine for the B2Ten Foundation, supporting Canadian athletes competing on the global stage. Earlier in his career, he also taught at Concordia University, helping shape future leaders in sports performance and healthcare.
Today, Scott is the Co-Founder of ReconditioningHQ, an international education platform dedicated to systems-based thinking, practitioner mentorship, and advancing the continuum from recovery to performance. He is also the host of the Leave Your Mark podcast, where he shares insights on leadership, growth, and lessons learned through sport and life—making him a powerful and inspiring voice for today’s performance professionals.

Sports Hernia & the Hockey Player: A Multifaceted Conservative Approach to Correction of Pelvic Imbalances – Including the evaluation & treatment of a sports hernia
This course presents a comprehensive, evidence-informed framework for understanding, assessing, and managing sports hernia and related groin pain presentations in hockey athletes. The session integrates chiropractic care, functional assessment, manual therapy, corrective exercise, and performance-based rehabilitation strategies into a practical model that can be applied immediately in clinical practice.
Attendees will learn how to identify the anatomical, biomechanical, and functional factors that contribute to sports hernia presentations, while also differentiating athletic pubalgia from other common causes of groin pain. Emphasis will be placed on practical clinical reasoning, pelvic balance, spinal and extremity function, and corrective strategies that support both recovery and long-term performance.
The course will also explore conservative and chiropractic management approaches, including assessment, manual therapy, stabilization, and progressive corrective exercise. Participants will leave with practical tools for supporting athletes and everyday patients alike, including strategies they can begin using on Monday morning after the seminar.
The Scouting Report
Dr. Couillard has served internationally with the Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport (FICS) and has provided care at premier events, including the 2026 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He currently serves as Team Chiropractor for the St. Paul Saints (AAA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins), Hamline University, Shattuck–St. Mary’s School, a nationally respected hockey program, and the Sports Medicine Director for Nova Classical Academy.
A former President of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association, Dr. Couillard also serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Minnesota State High School League, bringing trusted leadership and athlete-centered expertise to the PHCS community.

Hockey Craniofacial Injuries
Dr. Hamlar brings a powerful combination of clinical expertise, real-world trauma experience, and dynamic presentation style to this fast-paced 1-hour session.
Attendees will gain practical insight into the recognition and management of critical facial, oral, nasal, and airway-related injuries, with emphasis on the types of trauma that can occur in competitive sports settings.
Topics include facial lacerations, laryngeal trauma, nasal fractures, oral cavity injuries, facial fractures, and more.
The Scouting Report
Dr. Hamlar earned his dental degree at Howard University, then completed medical school and a residency in Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at The Ohio State University, followed by a fellowship in Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota. He is a faculty member in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery and is on staff at multiple Twin Cities hospitals.
A retired Major General of the Minnesota Air National Guard, Dr. Hamlar served in the Gulf War, OEF, and OIF, and continues supporting readiness and medical preparedness. He is active in research and simulation-based emergency training, including responder models for carotid laceration control and emerging airway injury response, while also leading in service roles, such as serving as Chair of the medical school DEI Council and Chair of the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Red Cross and KMOJ Radio.

Neurosensory & Mechanical Applications of Kinesiology Tape: From Cortical Mapping to Strain-Resistant Technology
This presentation will update sports chiropractors on the evolving science and clinical application of kinesiology taping for hockey athletes and active patients.
Attendees will explore how traditional kinesiology tape functions as a neurosensory tool, helping address sensory blind spots, enhance cortical body mapping, and improve movement awareness. The session will also examine how strain-resistant tape, or SRT, provides velocity-dependent mechanical support during high-load athletic movements such as slap shots, explosive skating, acceleration, and change of direction.
The course integrates current evidence on exteroception, proprioception, and interoception with practical, hockey-specific taping applications for the low back and Achilles.
The second hour will focus on hands-on skill development, giving clinicians the opportunity to practice and refine techniques they can immediately integrate into their sports chiropractic practice.
Participants will leave with practical, evidence-informed tools they can begin using with athletes and active patients on Monday morning.

A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic West (2003), Dr. Capobianco holds a post-doctoral Diplomate in Rehabilitation (DACRB) through the ACA and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is the Co-Founder and Senior Director of Medical Innovation and Education at RockTape, where he leads global education in kinesiology taping, soft-tissue techniques, and movement-based methods—delivering tools that clinicians can apply immediately in real-world practice.
A longtime favorite presenter for both the Pro Baseball and Pro Hockey Chiropractic Societies, “Capo” is known for blending the latest scientific evidence with clear, usable takeaways—plus a few sport-specific twists that resonate with high-performance providers. Outside the classroom, he’s usually on his mountain bike, playing hockey, training for Ironman triathlons, or chasing his two dogs (especially when they decide the Amazon driver is a worthy opponent).

Strength & Conditioning for Hockey- Always Sparing the Spine
Sean will share his perspective on the evolution of strength and conditioning in professional sports, including where the field has been, how it has changed, and where it is headed.
This presentation will explore the unique role of the strength and conditioning coach in supporting athlete development, performance, injury prevention, and long-term durability. Attendees will gain insight into how a well-designed program can reduce injury risk during training while improving strength, consistency, and movement quality.
The session will also address common hockey-related injuries, with special emphasis on protecting the spine throughout training and competition. Sean will discuss how strength development, spinal stability, and effective “core” training can support both elite hockey athletes and everyday patients in clinical practice.

Sean Skahan, MEd, CSCS, is a highly respected Strength and Conditioning Coach with over 28 years of experience, best known for his deep expertise in hockey performance and long-term athlete development. He holds a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota and has built a career at the intersection of elite training, durability, and game-ready preparation.
Sean spent 20 years in the NHL as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Anaheim Ducks and the Minnesota Wild, playing a key role in developing high-performing, resilient athletes across the grind of professional seasons. He was part of the Ducks organization during their Stanley Cup championship run in 2007, contributing to the performance culture and preparation required to win at the highest level.
Today, Sean is the founder of Skahan Sports Conditioning, where he has established sports performance facilities in the Minneapolis metro area. Through his coaching, mentorship, and consulting, he continues to elevate athletes and practitioners with practical, proven strategies that translate from the weight room to the ice—and beyond.

Beyond the Boards: From Injury Trends to Emergency Care-A Look into Professional Women’s Hockey
The Scouting Report
Before joining the PWHL, Christina worked across multiple levels of hockey, including the Premier Hockey Federation, the North American Hockey League, and St. Paul Johnson High School, while also gaining clinical experience in concussion care at TRIA Orthopedic Center. Her professional interests include concussion management, emergency care, athlete education, and collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to patient care.
An active leader in the profession, Christina is involved with both the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA), where she previously served as Secretary, chaired the Continuing Education Committee, and advised the MATA Student Senate. She currently serves as the PWHL liaison to the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Association, helping advance standards of care and collaboration within professional women’s hockey.
